Philosophy

When I started building guitars more than 30 years ago, I was looking for something
new I was a passionate rock musician and searching for an instrument that does
not look like a Paula, Strat or Tele. In particular I was looking for a
different, new sound. After building the instruments of my dreams, I was content
and continued playing music. Pursuing a professional career in building guitars
did not cross my mind. Yet. During the
following years I was occasionally approached in regards to my beautiful
well-sounding instruments but I did not yet
have a workshop.

Since 2018
I am building guitars, basses and lapsteel guitars full-time. For necks tops
and bodies I often used wood that is traditionally not used for building
guitars, trying many things that crossed my mind. The result were many
beautiful instruments with remarkable sounds. Some bad designs had to be burned as well.
I play every instrument for the span of a few days to decide what is needed to
archieve the perfect sound and playability. In order to do so I try installing
different pickups, to ensure the sound of each and every instrument is optimal.
I know how each of my different wood types sound and am able to combine them to
realise certain sounds features. This is making sure I can tell every customer
which wood they need to realise their expectations.

For the construction of my instruments I exclusively use domestic woods. I buy them from regional wood dealers sawmills. A few exceptions are red robinia and olive tree, which are bought in southern Europe and the American walnut tree, which I obtain from Canada.

Tropical wood is NOT used for my constructions.

Our domestic types of trees all have properties suitable to craft marvellous types of instruments from them. In regards to optics, there is something for every taste. (See woods for reference).
